A fresh round of the Think 20 (T20) to generate public policy proposals for the G20 under the Argentine presidency has begun. This year the initiative is chaired by CARI and SV’s network member CIPPEC. This February, 149 think tanks joined forces at the inception workshop titled ‘Vision and Strategies for 2018’. The work of the think tanks was divided into ten task forces, aimed at producing policy recommendations for the G20 working groups throughout the year.
The forum posed unique opportunities for Southern Voice’s members to meet and collaborate on the various topics of the task forces, ranging from trade and migration to education, gender and climate. Southern Voice’s Director, Andrea Ordóñez, has been invited to co-chair the task force on the 2030 Agenda. After several working sessions and fruitful exchanges, the task forces established their priorities and presented their working guidelines for the upcoming months.
The inception workshop was also attended by representatives of the Argentinian Government and top experts on global development, such as Prof. Jeffrey Sachs. Among other issues, Prof. Sachs emphasised the role of think tanks and the need to rely on cooperative institutions to face the world challenges of today. The openness of the Argentinian Government and willingness to include think tanks and work with them in global policy issues cannot go unnoticed.
Overall, the T20 aims to have an impact on decision-making, improve governance and increase living standards worldwide, and this workshop successfully set the foundations to reach the T20’s ultimate goals. Visit the initiative’s website for more detailed information.
