Post-2015 Data Test: Bangladesh Country Report released

post-2015-data-test-logoThe Bangladesh Country Report prepared under the Post-2015 Data Test: Unpacking the Data Revolution at the Country Level has just been released. The study titled Measuring for Monitoring: the State of Data for SDGs in Bangladesh provides an insight into the state of data which will be required for measuring and monitoring Bangladesh’s progress in the context of the goals and targets in view of the post-2015 agenda. The study was conducted by Professor Mustafizur Rahman, Executive Director, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD); Towfiqul Islam Khan, Research Fellow, CPD; Md. Zafar Sadeque, Senior Research Associate, CPD; and Mostafa Amir Sabbih, Research Associate, CPD.

Aimed at policy-makers, policy-analysts and members of the development and research communities, among others, the report undertakes a close look at the data situation pertaining to eight selected SDG-related candidate goal areas in the context of Bangladesh. These are: poverty, education, employment and inclusive growth, energy and infrastructure, environmental sustainability and disaster resilience, governance, global partnership for sustainable development, and health.

The study examines the state of data in relation to each of the aforesaid goal areas from the perspective of a number of important indicators: accuracy and reliability, timeliness and punctuality, accessibility and clarity, and coherence and comparability.

It is hoped that the study will help anticipate and take appropriate targeted actions to address data-related deficits and challenges in Bangladesh in connection with the SDGs. The study will also provide valuable pointers to other developing countries as they prepare for implementing SDG-related Data Revolution at their respective country level.
