The Evaluation Conclave 2017 titled “Well-being and Sustainable Development – New Frontiers in Evaluation” was organised by the Community of Evaluators, South Asia in Bhutan on 6-9 June 2017. The programme saw active participation from the Gross National Happines Commission, Royal Government of Bhutan and evaluators, experts, think tanks and academia from South Asia and across the world.

Shrimoyee presented CSTEP’s work on urbanisation and the related Suatainable Developemnt Goals (SDG). Her presentation included CSTEP’s experience from conducting a study on Localising gender equality goal through urban planning tools in South Asia which showed that tracking SDG targets at the intersections of two or more goals is not an easy task in terms of selection of indicators as well as availability of data. CSTEP’s presentation also included challenges towards monitoring progress on SDGs related to the larger urban ecosystem. Various disconnects that exist between indicators of SDG targets in the agreed upon reporting requirements and the true objective of a specific SDG target were mentioned, which pose challenges to localisation of the SDGs.

The panel also included a presentation from network member Vaqar Ahmed from Sustainable Development Policy Institute, Pakistan, who highlighted the use of evaluation for policy effectiveness in youth-related SDGs. He recently co-authored a paper on the challenges of youth employment in Pakistan.
