Southern Voice on Post-MDG International Development Goals (Southern Voice) has joined the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data – a global initiative that supports data-driven decision-making by promoting more open, new, and usable data to help end extreme poverty, combat climate change, and ensure a healthy life for all. Southern Voice will be one of the Anchor Partners of the Global Data Partnership.
Southern Voice will contribute its unique perspectives, initially in three working groups of the Global Data Partnership viz. (i) Country Level Data Roadmaps/Action Plans; (ii) Global Data Collaboratives, and (iii) Resource Alignment and Mobilisation.
The contribution of Southern Voice is expected to add significant value to the work of the Global Data Partnership thanks to the network’s continual engagement in, and contribution to, the pursuit of addressing the challenges of Data Revolution. It has recently implemented the multi-country project Post-2015 Data Test: Unpacking the Data Revolution at the Country Level in Bangladesh, Canada, Peru, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Turkey and consequently four Country Data Action Plans are being prepared. Country studies on National Level Implementation Challenges of SDGs are also being prepared in ten countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, where data issues take centre stage.
The engagement of Southern Voice will allow perspectives from the Global South to resonate in the activities of the Global Data Partnership. It will be an important opportunity for the Southern Voice to showcase its studies on data issues conducted in 2014 and 2015 at the Global Data Partnership platforms. The partnership will also allow Southern Voice to add new elements to its research and outreach programmes.
