SV Launches Studies on Implementation Challenges of SDGs at Country Level

Based on the implementation experience of the MDGs, a number of value added changes have been made while designing the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There are a number of readily identifiable challenges in the area of data and beyond. Southern Voice, in this connection, aims to raise the awareness and preparedness at national and global levels as regards implementation challenges of the SDGs and their implications. The broad areas of concern are integrating of the global post-2015 agenda in national planning framework, coordination and leadership in the implementation process, resources for implementation, and participation and accountability. Southern Voice called for research proposals to investigate and analyse these issues. Southern Voice is pleased to announce that through a peer reviewed process the research grants have been awarded to the following partner institutes.

1. Six awards for six country studies:

i. Tanzania, Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF)
ii. Nigeria, Center for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA)
iii. Bolivia, Instituto de Estudios Avanzados en Desarrollo (INESAD)
iv. Bamako Mali, Groupe de Recherche en Économie Applique et Théorique (GREAT)
v. Centro de Análisis y Difusión de la Economía Paraguaya (CADEP), and
vi. Ethiopian Economic Association/Ethiopian Economic Policy Research Institute (EEA/EEPRI), Ethiopia.

2. Four awards for two joint studies in two countries.

Ecuador
i. Centro Ecuatoriano de Derecho Ambiental (CEDA), and
ii. GRUPO FARO
Pakistan
iii. Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC), and
iv. Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI)

3. Four awards for parallel studies in two countries

Sri Lanka
i. Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS), and
ii. Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA)
India
i. Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), and
ii. Indian Institute of Dalit Studies (IIDS).

Final outcome documents of these Grants are expected to be published by December, 2015.
